A barn, a finish and stuff...

Hi there Sweet Friends, hope you're all prepping for a glorious weekend, Happy Friday!  Our NYS Finger Lakes weather has been s t e l l a r (singing), hard to imagine for March, we could easily be knee deep in snow storms, or at least being threatened by them.  Winter here never really happened, many cold and bitter days, but little snow, very weird.  Spring seems to have sprung early here, the birds~a~chirpin are such a welcome treat:)

COLLECTING...  Late last summer part of DFIL's barn tangled with a wind storm and started to come down, then a little more, and then even more, you know how it goes.  She's about 180 yrs old, has worked hard and is just plain worn out.  Seems Old Man Mighty Wind always prevails.

A slow and painful fare thee well to another NYS barn...

And so the scavenging begins with trailer loads 'o junk to the dump and trips home with old, very old and even older treasures.  Maybe I can share some more found treasures in the future, but I don't wanna bore you all.  There's so much stuff making it's way into our house, garage, basement ~ someone puhleeeze make it stop!!!  Ok, I'll admit... this nice old rusty scale is really handy.

Cooking...  If you've followed here for a while (and I thank you!), you know there's bound to be food stuff going on, so thanks for your indulgence, here we gooooooo!  If you're not into it, please move along, no harm done:)

Came across a new blog today called *Food In Jars*, these Sweet and Sour Pickled Red Onions will be my first concoction.

Asparagus will be first up this year, prob earlier than usual.  I'll try this recipe for Pickled Asparagus.

Summer garden/farmers market will be quite a while, so I'll do these Pickled Dilly Carrots with store bought carrots.

Stitching... For those of you who didn't yet see this ~ YAY ~ finished my first piece on 40 ct. linen.  Our dear friend Barbara over at To Stitch or Not to Stitch is celebrating a birthday so I surprised her with this lavender sachet on 40 ct.  This was a joy to stitch and finish, I enjoyed picking out the linen, floss color and wool backing just for Barbara:)
La D Da ~ 'Tis Green
JCS August 2010 Christmas preview issue
Floss ~ HDF Raisin Wine, one strand over 2 threads
Linen ~ Lakeside Linens, Palomino 40 ct.
Backside ~ overdyed wool
Filling ~ dried lavender
Started/Finished ~ March 2012

Guess I'm off to set up the crockpot with corned beef, it'll start at 11:00 (p.m.) and cook overnight.  Gonna cook the devil out of it... with hopes that it'll be fork tender.

Thanks for your visit dear friends, Happy St. Patty's Day to all!

~ BACK IN BLACK ~

Hi there!  Warm thanks to those of you who've kept my blog on your reader list despite my long absence from posting.  I've enjoyed simply sitting in the back and following along the last couple months.  Haven't posted any finishes in forever, but happily now have this to share.  I adored stitching on this silk and thankful I have more of it, and in other colors too, it's not your conventional stitching linen, but a very fine base nonetheless.  DH found this great old leather baby boot rooting around in the barn one day and I found the 2 sweet thread spools on the right and the wee silk bobbins at a thrift store for a song...

 La D Da ~ ABCD
Silk fabric ~ approx 26 ct~ Desert Sand
Floss ~ DMC black, three over two
Start ~ 06/14/10
Finish ~ 10/23/10

~ Edgar ~ if per chance you catch this post, here's that Andover Fabrics silk, slubby and prim, easy to stitch on and wonderful in Q-snaps, requires lots of floss for adequate coverage.

On a recent trip to  Denny's, DH found this bolt in the bottom of his drink glass, it's from the inside wall of the ice machine.  It had come loose, fell into the bin and got scooped up with ice, and of course ended up on our table.  I tell ya, if something weird is gonna happen at a restaurant, it ALWAYS happens to DH.

And yes, this stitcher enjoys a little AC-DC now and again, but not while stitching of course:)  Well all, thanks for popping in, wishing each of you a day full of sweet stitches and granted wishes:)

~ LA DA DA FRAMED ~

Hi there Dear Friends!

Thanks for your kinship and following along here:)  I've loved following each and every blog in my reader, all of them!  I wonder how many of you are like me and have done away with flipping magazine pages to spend more time following stitchy blogs...

So, none of the custom mouldings I toiled over seemed to give this design the period look I was striving for.  My heart sank as I sadly resigned myself to the fact that this piece would remain (heavy sigh)... unframed.  As a last ditch effort I started pawing through the frames at Michaels, my heart stopped as I noticed this 8x10  ready made beauty perched on the highest shelf at Michaels.  I think I actually gasped quite loud, right there in the store - lol.

Pics are clickable.
Frame stands upright, plain rails and upper shelf moulding...
Sweet little period feet ~ lovely design element don't you think...

La D Da ~ Quaker Alphabet 2007
WDW 35 ct linen ~ Straw
Floss ~ WDW Palomino, 2 over 2, approx 6 skeins
Stitch Count 110 x 138
Initials and year inserted lower right corner of design

After all my obsessing about linen and floss and framing, she became exactly as I envisioned, the perfect combination of design, fiber and finish, couldn't have asked for more.  She'll rest on our harvest table, where one can gaze at her and gather inspiration for another project to capture ones' heart...

Ok, I'd better skedaddle before I start weeping ~ and no one laugh at me please, cause I know you've all been there before ~ lol:)

Thanks for popping in today!

~ Hello Old Friend ~

Hi there! My apologies for being away, life recently brought our family a time for gentle pause, so we've been observing peace and serenity in our home, and really really focusing on staying close and loving one another.

In the last couple of days I've found myself drawn to an old friend, a WIP (work in progress for my non-stitchy friends), which set up residence in my stitching basket many years ago, too many to remember. So I began a few more stitches today and am enjoying its' simplicity. The design is not fancy or adventurous. The palette is drab, simple and primitive. The green DMC 731 is not one I usually favor, but quite fetching and perfect here. I adore the mix of brown, green and tiny pink highlights that adorn the border:)

La-D-Da *Rejoice* by Lori Markovic, DMC colors.

Thx for popping in!
